Sweat starts to bead the moment I step outside the office. The heat wraps around me, and even in the evening, the sun still hangs high in the sky. It’s one of those little reminders that summer is quietly settling in.
On my way home, I stop by a convenience store and grab an ice-cold Coke. A few long gulps later, the thirst finally begins to fade.
They say this summer won’t be quite as brutal as last year’s. It’s still hot, though. And somehow, that feels right. Summer should feels like summer, shouldn’t it?

Chasing the Blue

Back home, I switch on the air conditioner and take a shower. By the time I sink into my bed, the cool air finally makes everything feel bearable.
I close my eyes. The ocean appears almost instantly.
Last summer’s beach is still vivid in my mind. People buried in warm sand, soaking up the sun. Beachgoers stretched out with perfect tans. Throwing a float into the water and racing after it with my friends, laughing like we didn’t have a care in the world.
I open my eyes. Without thinking, I pull up my group chat.
“We’re going back to the beach this year, right?”
